My thesis topic for my Master of Arts in Christian Scripture was the identity of the “I” in Romans 7:14-25. Going in, I knew there was debate on whether or not Paul is referring to himself as a Christian or if he was projecting himself back to his pre-Christian state; however, I had no idea just how big the debate was or the staggering number of suggestions as to the identity of “I”.
