Cain Killed Abel with a blow
In wrath and fury laid him low
Upon the ground the blood did run
Under scorching noonday sun
From the earth the blood did cry
Witnessing to God Most High
Telling of the fratricide
How Cain wept not as Abel died
Afterwards God questioned Cain,
“Where is your brother? Tell me plain.”
“My brother’s keeper am not I”
Thus would Cain his guilt deny
“O foolish man, I hear the sound
Of Abel’s blood within the ground
I saw your murder, I see your pride
My law you brazenly defied
And for this deed you banished are
Cursed to roam in lands afar
Yet in mercy I will place
A mark upon your hands and face
And when men ask, you tell them bold
“God shall avenge me seven-fold””
